TFW Visalia Charity Fundraiser - Team Abigail

  • TFW Visalia 6829 West Pershing Avenue Visalia, CA, 93291 United States (map)

In July of 2014 at the age of 7, Abigail Caplan-Jones was diagnosed with metastatic Ewings Undifferentiated Sarcoma.

After having severe back pain and fatigue, multiple scans revealed that she had tumors located in the left chest cavity and near her spine.

Abigail then began a rigorous treatment process which included:
42 weeks of chemotherapy
6 weeks of radiation treatment
8 combined hours of various surgical procedures
340 days of total treatment

In June of 2015, after a long, hard, and courageous fight Abigail's scans showed no evidence of disease and was declared in remission.

Unfortunately in November of 2015 when Abigail went in for her routine follow up scans, they revealed that her cancer had returned.

Now faced with fighting cancer for the second time, Abigail went through varying amounts of new chemotherapy treatments and a clinical trial for immunotherapy.

All of these treatments were unsuccessful as the cancer became more aggressive, continued to grow, and spread throughout her body.

On May 22nd, 2016 at the age of 9, Abigail Caplan-Jones passed away from cancer.

To honor Abigail and all the happiness, kindness, and love she gave to so many in such a short time, Team Abigail ask you to come together and help raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF)

Abigail’s story is just one of the nearly 15,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year.*
Cancer is now the number one cause of disease-related deaths for children under 15 in the United States.*

In 2014, approximately 8 billion dollars of government funding was set aside for all types of cancer research, but only 4% went towards childhood cancer research.*

Though because of research the cancer death rate has dropped more dramatically for children then any other age group.*

So the need to continue to research and make new strides in the treatment of pediatric cancer is crucial.
